The USA Women’s volleyball team remains unbeaten in the preliminary round of the Women’s Volleyball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Americans dominated the equally talented Serbians in four thrilling set with the score of 25-17, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-19. This is the third straight wins of the USA team who is aiming for a gold medal this year after their 2nd place finished last 2012 London Olympics.
Veteran Middle attackers Rachael Adams and Foluke Akinradewo led the American team who scored 18 points and 16 points apiece. Outside hitters also help the team who scored 13 points and 11 points apiece.
Serbia committed 28 unforced errors that also help the USA in claiming this third win aside from their explosive attacks and superb service.
Veteran Serbian players Brankica Mihajlovic and Tijana Boskovic led the Serbian team who both scored 18 points apiece.
In the other matches, Netherlands defeated Italy in straight sets by the score of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20 to bounces back from the loss against the USA in the previous match.
The newly appointed team captain Anne Buijs who took over from the injured former team captain Maret Balkestein has scored 19 points, 18 from attacks and a service ace. The ever reliable opposite spiker Lonneke Sloetjes also help the team with 14 points.
Defending Olympic gold medalists Brazil defeated the scrappy Japan team in straight sets. The Brazilians outlasted the Japanese by the score of 25-18, 25-18, 28-22 to also claim its third straight win in the tournament.
Natalia Pereira led the Brazilian team who scored a total of 16 points, 13 from attacks, 2 blocks, and a service ace.
The USA team will face Italy in their next game while Netherlands and Brazil will face Puerto Rico and South Korea, respectively.
