The National Men’s Volleyball team of Canada upsets the undefeated team Italy in Pool A that gives them a spot in the quarterfinals of the Men’s Volleyball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Canadian team got the first two sets of the match, but they relax and play complacently on the third set that why Italy took it, but then again they managed to win the fourth set and the match. Canada defeated Italy in four sets by the score of 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 25-21 to advance to the next round of the competition.
The Canadian team survived the Italian’s strong service who got 9 services aces as compared to 3 service aces on them. Despite having more service aces, Italy helped Canada in taking this match by their faulty errors which they commit 34 errors as compared to 22 of Canada.
Canadian Opposite hitter Gavin Schmitt carried the whole team who scored a total of 25 points, 23 from attacks, 1 block, and 1 service ace. Graham Vigrass also helped the team and he also scored in double digits with a total of 14 points, 9 from attacks, 4 blocks, and a service ace.
On the other side of the court, the undefeated Italy can’t find the antidote to stop the brilliant plays of Canada. Veteran player Luca Vettori led the Italian team with 20 points, 17 from attacks and 3 service aces. Osmany Juantorena and Ivan Zaytsev also helped the team with 16 points and 9 points apiece.
Meanwhile, Brazil eliminated France after defeating them in four sets by the score of 25-22, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-23 to advance also for the next round of competition. Veteran Opposite hitter Wallace De Souza led the Brazilian team with 21 points, 19 from attacks and 2 service aces.
Canada will face the very dangerous and powerhouse team Poland for the quarterfinal round. Brazil will face Argentina who is in the top spot of Pool B tied with Poland.
