2016 Rio Olympics: USA Men’s Basketball team survived scrappy Australia, 98-88 [Highlights Video Included]

The USA Men’s Basketball team survived the scrappy and talented Australian Basketball team to remain unbeaten in the Men’s Basketball tournament of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The Americans defeated the Australians 98-88 to claim its third straight win in the tournament. The USA team has pushed to its limit of the world ranked 11th Australia who never finished an Olympic podium.

The U.S. team, with the kind of lineup of NBA all-stars and most valuable players, are attempting for a third straight gold medal. They remained on top of the Group A standings with a 3-0 record. Australia dropped to 2-1.

The USA is unbeaten since the bronze medal match of the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, the United States was on the brink of a rare loss until a fourth quarter rally.

NBA Superstar Carmelo Anthony had an impressive game in this match and he led the USA team who scored a game-high of 31 points on 11/21 shooting. Aside from being the highest scorer in the match, The New York Knicks star Anthony also saved the whole USA team from an upset this Summer Olympics.

Kyrie Irving of the Cleaveland Cavaliers also helps Anthony and the team who score 19 points and 5 assists. He also played a vital role in winning the match as his three-point shot from the right wing with 1:35 remaining solidify their lead in the match.

On the other side of the court, Patty Mills of the San Antonio Spurs led the Australian team who scored 30 big points 11 of 22 field goals. Andrew Bogut also helps the team with 15 points.

The USA team will face Serbia in their next game for the preliminary round of the tournament while Australia will face China.

The USA is fighting for their third straight Olympic gold medal this Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
