USA Men’s Volleyball Team suffered its second straight loss in the preliminary round of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.
USA loss to Italy in four thrilling sets by the score of 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-23. They also lose their first game against Canada. The USA team is now has 0-2 win-loss record in Pool A of the Men’s Volleyball tournament.
Despite having four players in double digits, the American can’t still manage to overcome the veteran Italian Squad led by their seasoned players Osmany Juantorena and Ivan Zaytev who scored a total of 20 points and 15 points apiece.
Aaron Russell is the top scorer for the USA team who scored 22 points, 19 from attacks, 1 block and 2 service aces plus 44.83 success rate in service reception. Matt Anderson and Taylor Sander also help the American team who scored 14 points and 12 points apiece.
In the earlier match, France defeated Mexico in straight sets by the score of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-22, to take its first win in the tournament after losing their first game against Italy in straight sets.
The French dominated the Mexicans in all departments, they had 40 spikes, 7 blocks, and 4 service aces as compared to 31 spikes, 3 blocks, and a service ace. Mexico’s fault errors that plagued them throughout the match helped France in taking this easy win.
Seasoned players Earvin Ngapeth and Antonin Rouzier led the French team who scored both a total of 13 points apiece.
The USA team will face the 2012 London Olympics silver medalists Brazil on August 11 for their third game in the preliminary round of the tournament while France will face the mighty Canadian team.
