The United States Men’s National Basketball Team will be facing their toughest opponent, France, in the group stages of the 2016 Rio Olympics on Sunday. Here are all the things you need to know for USA vs. France Group A action including previews, predictions, and live stream links.
Team USA has dominated their first two opponents, China and Venezuela, before getting pushed to the limit by Australia and Serbia. The Americans got a scare from the Australians on Wednesday, before defeating the Serbians on Friday as they escaped with a 94-91 win.
Nikola Jokic, who was the best player all game for both sides, missed a game-tying three to give the Americans a three-point lead. It was a wake-up call for Team USA, who needs to work on their ball movement and defense if they want to beat France.
“We’ll get better. Just communication, just some small things we have to fix, nothing major, but we’re playing fine. We’re playing great. Right now we’re 4-0 and we’re looking forward to playing France on Sunday. I’m not concerned, we’re not concerned with things we could do a little bit better, but we’re okay. We’re fine,” Carmelo Anthony said on what they need to do against France, per USAB.com.
On the other hand, the France Men’s National Basketball Team is on a three-game winning streak after losing their first game in Rio against Australia. They defeated Venezuela last Friday, 96-56, and they were led by Joffrey Lauvergne with 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski will have to keep his players focused as France knows that they could defeat the favorites. However, the Americans have too much fire power to not sweep the group stages. Team USA will win another close game heading into the knockout stages.
