Dellavedova showed that he could be a starter in the league with some good performances for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Australian PGs the last three seasons.

In Cleveland, he played a back-up role to star PG Kyrie Irving and averaged 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in three seasons.

With Australia at the men’s basketball competition in Rio, Brazil, Dellavedova is averaging 10.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists and one of the leaders for his country. He is also shooting 53.8 percent from the three-point area.

Matthew Dellavedova’s best game in the 2016 Olympics came in a win over Serbia when he had 23 points and 13 assists. Against the close loss versus Team USA in the group stages, he had 11 points and 11 assists against the world’s best players.

Dellavedova had 15 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting in their game against Lithuania on Wednesday and helped the team advance to the semifinals in Rio. The Australians face Serbia in the final four and will be assured a medal if they can win their next game.

“I’ll go from being a younger guy on a veteran team to more of an older veteran on a younger team,” Dellavedova said via the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel. “So I’m looking forward to that opportunity. They’ve got a lot of young guys with potential and length, obviously. Playing against them, I know they’ve got a lot of potential there.”

In the NBA, Dellavedova is known for his hustle play and energy on defense. He became popular in the 2015 NBA Finals when he played well against Stephen Curry in the championship series.

Dellavedova is also known as one of the “dirtiest players” in the league in recent polls among NBA players. There were NBA rumors that the Australian is intentionally doing it to hurt opponents but some claims that this is just because of how he plays physically.
