Alex Rodriguez sits out Yankees 2-0 victory with flu-like symptoms
The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 2-0 on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won without their starting third baseman Alex Rodriguez in the lineup.
According to MLB.com, Rodriguez was a late scratch from the Yankees lineup with flu-like symptoms. A-Rod was in the lineup batting fifth and playing third base but was pulled out of the lineup 45 minutes before first pitch.
“He was really sick last night and he played, and I texted him this morning and he said he wanted to try,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “He did some work in the cage, and then we saw him and he just didn’t look good. He was pale. Hopefully tomorrow he’s a lot better.”
According to ESPN.com, Girardi moved Mark Reynolds, who was supposed to play first base, to third base and Lyle Overbay went from the bench to starting at first base. Girardi also had to make changes in the batting order from the fifth spot to eighth.
With the victory, the Yankees passed the Orioles in the standings in the AL East and AL wild-card race.
