Andre Agassi inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame

Tennis legend Andre Agassi was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday.

According to The Toronto Sun, Agassi, 41, won 60 ATP-level titles in 90 finals throughout his career, which began in 1986 and did not end until his retirement in 2006.

During his professional career,  Agassi had eight Grand Slam wins.  He is one of only seven men ever to capture the career Grand Slam and is the only one to have won the career Golden Slam (all fours majors and an Olympic gold medal).

The New York Times reports that during his induction speech, Agassi admitted that there were times when he resented the sport that he had so well mastered. He was pushed into the sport as a small child by his father, Emmanuel Aghassian.  However, he went on to say that it was all a necessary part of his journey, and that he would not be where he is today had he not pursued the sport.

Agassi went on to express his thanks to the sport of tennis for, among other things, introducing him to his wife and fellow Hall of Famer Steffi Graf, who he married in 2001.
