English Premier League (EPL) giant Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has promised that he is not afraid to spend big money to acquire players in this transfer window. However, he will only pay big for the right players.
“We are very active and if we find the right candidates, we will spend the big money. We have already spent big and, until now, nobody has made a bigger transfer than we have in the country.” Wenger said, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Frenchman has made three signings this summer at the Emirates Stadium. The big name of those three is Switzerland international Granit Xhaka from Borussia Mönchengladbach for $37.34 million.
It has to be noted that this is the biggest individual fee paid for a player in England in the current transfer window. Paul Pogba’s world record transfer to Manchester United could break this, but until the deal is finalized, this will remain the biggest transfer fee paid by an English club in this transfer window.
Wenger has stressed on the fact that the Arsenal hierarchy are working hard day and night to finalize transfer deals for the club. He has specially mentioned that the transfer window is active until August 31, 2016 and bringing in players to the club is not over.
The Gunners are linked with the likes of Barcelona’s Arda Turan, Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette. Another player who has been strongly linked to make way towards the Emirates Stadium this summer is Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
Meanwhile, when Wenger was asked about being offered the England manager’s job, the Frenchman refused to comment on names.
