Auburn DT Nick Fairley Blows Away Scouts at Pro Day

Nick Fairley is a 6-foot-5, 298-pound defensive tackle who just came off a career season, which was capped off with a National Championship. Fairley led the Tigers with 11.5 sacks on the year and was an integral part of Auburn’s tenacious defense.

Auburn University hosted their Pro Day Tuesday, and though many scouts and analysts were on hand to see how Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton would perform, it was Fairley who caught their attention.

Newly hired Denver Broncos head coach John Fox and vice president of football operations John Elway were keeping a close eye on the dominance that Fairley displayed.

The Broncos hold the second overall pick in this year’s draft, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Denver select the physical phenom. But that is only if he slips by the Panthers, who possess the first pick.

According to ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay, Fox and Elway saw quite a show. On ESPN’s SportsCenter, McShay said he was “blown away” by Fairley’s performance. McShay said it was one of the best workouts he’d ever seen by an interior lineman. McShay raved about Fairley’s footwork.

It was no secret that Fairley was going to be a top-10 pick in the draft this year, but with the rave reviews he’s earned, it’s likely the former Tiger will be off the board even earlier than projected.
