Barry Sanders wins the Madden 25 NFL cover
After defeating Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in a series of votes across the nation, Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders will be the next player featured on the next installment of the Madden series.
“Congrats to my guy Barry Sanders for winning the 2013 Madden Cover! Any other guy to take me down… it would’ve been a problem! Salute,” Peterson wrote on Twitter.
This was the first time that the Madden franchise hosted a series of vote between “old school” and “new school” players to decide who would be on the front cover.
In the final matchup between Sanders and Peterson, more than 700,000 votes were cast, according to ESPN.com. Sanders won with 58 percent to edge out Peterson.
With Sanders appearing on the front cover of Madden, this is the second consecutive year that the same team will be on the cover. Last year, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson appeared on the cover, according to The Detroit News.
In 1993, EA Sports changed the original name of John Madden Football to Madden NFL and acquired the rights to use NFL teams and players. Madden is also celebrating its 25th anniversary with the release of Madden NFL 25.
Madden NFL 25 is to be released on Aug. 27.
