Bartolo Colon returns to A’s rotation on Thursday
Oakland A’s starting pitcher Bartolo Colon is expected to return on Thursday from the disabled list.
According to MLB.com, Colon is expected to start Thursday against the Detroit Tigers. He will matchup against Tigers starter Max Scherzer who is 19-1 this season. Colon was on the disabled list with a strained left groin.
Colon will be monitored by A’s manager Bob Melvin as Colon struggled before going on the disabled list.
“He was a little worn down before the groin became an issue. He wasn’t pitching his best, so we’ll monitor him and see what he has to offer early on. Usually he tells you early in the game what kind of stuff he has,” said Melvin.
According to the NBC Sports, Colon threw a bullpen on Monday without a setback.
Colon,40, was an All-Star this season and has 14 wins, which ranks second in the American League behind Scherzer. He also has a 2.97 ERA which is seventh in the AL. Colon is having his best season since 2005 when he won the AL Cy Young award with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
