Boston Celtics beat Miami Heat in 2OT
It was a dramatic game for the Boston Celtics who beat the Miami Heat Sunday afternoon 100-98.
The biggest event for the Celtics is their star player, point guard Rajon Rondo tore his ACL during the game. This injury will mean that Rondo will have to have surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. It usually takes up to a year to recover from an ACL injury.
The Associated Press reports that there has been no date for the surgery. The Celtics announced it during the game against the Heat. This season Rondo was averaging 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds along with 11.1 assists per game.
Despite losing their star player the Celtics managed to end a six game losing streak in 2OT and winning by two points.
USAToday reports that the team does not seem in too bad of spirits. Paul Pierce said, ”I feel for him. He was having such a great season, making the All-Star team. It’s disappointing news. Guys just have to step up.”
Well Paul Pierce stepped up against the Heat. He had 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Kevin Garnett also stepped it up today with 24 points.
The Celtics did beat the Heat who are the leading Eastern Conference team with Rondo out for part of the game. That says something, however they were in eighth place with a record of 20-23 before this game. It is going to be tough but it will be interesting to see how the Celtics adjust to losing Rondo in their line up.
