Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester won’t start for Yankees game

Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester has been removed from starting for their Sunday night’s game against the New York Yankees.

Instead, he will be starting and on the mound for Tuesday’s game and Ryan Dempster will be taking his place in the rotation for the day, according to MLB.com.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said that it was done to give Lester more time to recover from the break he took, after he was injured, the Boston Herald reported.

“We felt like two things: One, we have an opportunity right now to give him a couple extra days coming out of the break,” he told MLB.com.

Farrell had a feeling that resting an extra couple of days will only help Lester when he does start on Tuesday.

“Not a specific concern,” he said to the Boston Herald. “We have the opportunity to give him a couple of extra days coming out of the break and two, he will be benefit from it.”
