Minutes after winning his recent fight, Gennady Golovkin is now trying to get the fight of his life as he calls out a challenge against Canelo Alvarez for his next fight.

Golovkin, who is the unified middleweight champion in the WBA, IBF and IBO middleweight belts, has the interim tag attached to his WBC title. It seems that it is the only title that he lacks that after disposing of challenger Dominic Wade Saturday night issued a resounding challenge.

“I feel great. I’m here now, and I’m here to stay. I’m not going anywhere. Give me my belt, give me my belt! Let’s fight,” Golovkin said into Alvarez, who is the WBA middleweight champion.

The knockout of Wade was his 22nd consecutive win in that fashion, and his 16th successful title defense in-a-row. Alvarez is next scheduled to face British star Amir Khan on May 7 in Las Vegas.

Golovkin trainer Abel Sanchez describes his ward as the best in his era as Golovkin disposed of Wade with 23 seconds left in the second round. Sanchez added that Golovkin’s performance has shown that he is ready for the big fights.

“I don’t think there’s any fighter in any era who’s dominated his division at a championship-level like Gennady. He makes good fighters look amateurish,” Sanchez explained.

The picture looks bright for Golovkin because if Alvarez wins over Khan, the latter will have no choice but to give in for a mandatory fight with GGG or else he will be stripped of his title as well. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that they would want to see if Alvarez can overcome Khan and if that happens that they would work for the Golovkin-Alvarez match.

“Let’s see what happens. Phase 1 is finished. Phase 2, let’s see. [Golovkin] is very powerful, like a pit bull, and [a bout against Alvarez] is a fight that everybody wants to see. That’s a fact. I’ve read it. I hear it. I think ‘Canelo’ looked great beating Miguel Cotto [in November]. ‘Triple-G’ looked great tonight. This is the time to make a great fight,” Sulaiman added.

Golovkin has proven his worth not it’s up to Alvarez to make the fight happen as he has to surpass Khan come May 7 and if he does, fight fans will be in for a sure treat to see two middleweight warriors getting it on inside the ring.
