Everyone knew how talented Terence Crawford was, but he gained newfound respect when they saw him fight Viktor Postol. He showed resilience against Yuriorkis Gamboa. However, he showed he is a star in his fight against Postol.
Prior to Saturday’s match, many doubted if he could hold his ground against Manny Pacquiao, but the tide has since shifted. Terence Crawford moved gracefully around the ring, but it was more than mere aesthetic as his foot speed allowed him to take away Viktor Postol’s favorite weapon. His jab was rendered useless against the American’s movement, and some time towards the middle rounds it became inexistent.
Even hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach was surprised by his speed and quickness, saying it was just too much for Postol to handle.
“He surprised me with his talent,” said Roach in an interview with Boxingscene.
Manny Pacquiao has reportedly agreed to fight Crawford if he beat Postol and performed well in doing so.
He beat him in such a convincing manner that the tide seems to have shifted with fans wondering if Manny Pacquiao still has the speed to match him.
If Manny Pacquiao drops down at 140 lbs. once again, as planned, expect to see the version of him who fought Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. Even at 147 lbs., Floyd Mayweather says the Filipino is a beast.
Floyd Mayweather during an interview with Fighthype, said that Pacquiao’s faster, bigger and stronger than he thought.
“If Terence Crawford happens to fight Manny Pacquiao, I want to let him know that it’s not going to be easy. Even though I know I made it look easy, it’s not going to be easy,” Floyd Mayweather said on November.
Some experts believe that with Pacquiao in the twilight of his career, a fight with Crawford would be considered as the changing of the guard for Top Rank, with Crawford taking over the helm for Bob Arum’s promotional outfit.
Is Bob Arum about to cash in on his biggest star?
Terence Crawford’s foot speed will present a big challenge for Manny, who’s also known for his quickness yet has been marred with leg cramps lately. We still have to see how his body reacts at 140 lbs., back to fighting at his ideal weight.
Freddie Roach stated that he would love to see Manny Pacquiao fight Crawford at 140 lbs. Manny has the advantage of experience, yet Crawford has youth on his side. It’s going to be a compelling fight when it happens, as Crawford will have to deal with Pacquiao’s angles and punches one doesn’t often see.
