Manny Pacquiao has been receiving a lot of flak in the Philippines for his inclinations to fight on November 5 later this year.
Citizens have been questioning his credibility as a senator after he announced his short-lived retirement after the third Bradley rematch, promising never to fight again so he could focus on his political aspirations.
Bob Arum says that the “Pacman” may face the winner Terence Crawford if he wins his match against Viktor Postol. He may also face WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
Bob Arum says that if Keith Thurman is really serious in wanting to fight his ward, then he needs to let Al Haymon call him, instead of using various channels to create stories. The same goes with Danny Garcia, who was rumored to be in the mix against Manny.
But Arum says he’s never heard from Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman, and that “they use Twitter like that idiot Trump does. It’s all mind games…” He said.
Experts maintain that the easiest fight to make is against Jessie Vargas, being under the same Top Rank umbrella. If Terence Crawford wins against Viktor Postol, as most expect, he may get a shot but it depends on how well he performs. Plus, the dates may be too close for his next fight.
Freddie Roach said that Manny Pacquiao wants to go back down to 140 lbs. where he’s at his natural fighting weight. The more it seems unlikely that Thurman would be a favorite choice, as he fights at 147 lbs.
Keith Thurman is nicknamed “One Time” for his power. He’s known to set up his opponents and knock them out with one punch, and has an astounding KO ratio with 27 wins and no losses with 22 knockouts.
On the other hand, Danny Garcia, who was rumored to have rejected a $4 million offer to fight Manny Pacquiao says it was his father who dealt with the transaction.
However, Manny Pacquiao is said to have personally agreed to fight Crawford if he wins. Bob Arum said, “I’ve talked to Manny and he’s willing to give Terence the opportunity… Manny has already said Yes.”
