Floyd Mayweather Jr. is making the headlines once again but this time it’s not about him getting out of retirement but it’s more of a word war against former WBA lightweight champion Adrien Broner.
The feud between the two dates back over the years and according to Fox Sports, the word war got worst during the media day when Broner met Ashley Theophane for their supposed match at the D.C. Armory in Washington. During the meet, Mayweather was not with his stalwart Theophane and Broner made a slight jab out of it.
“I’m kind of pissed that Floyd ain’t here. I want to say thank you to About Billions Promotions, Headbangers Promotions, Hateweather Promotions, I mean Mayweather Promotions …” Broner said.
The word got to Mayweather, who explained over FightHype.com why he was not able to make it to the press meet and lashed out on Broner as well.
“I put Ashley in a position to fight for a world title. I don’t know Ashley’s promoters from the past, but who put him in the position to fight for a world title? I feel like I’ve done my job by putting him in a position to fight for a world title. Adrien Broner, his nickname is “The Problem.” I think he has a lot of problems. Adrien Broner was just an alcoholic six months ago. One thing I’m trying to find out about Adrien Broner, is he a boxing promoter, is he a rapper, is he a porn star, or is he a gangster? Like I said before, “The Problem,” that’s what Adrien Broner likes to call himself, if I’m not mistaken,” Mayweather said.
“The problem that he really needs to focus on is his problem in Cincinnati. We’re talking about “The Problem,” Adrien Broner. He still got Maidana problems that I had to solve for him. We heard him talking about that he wanted to fight Shawn Porter again. Why, when you lost 11 rounds? You only won the 12th round.”
He also let Broner’s “Hateweather” comment easily slip and even got back at the 26-year old number six pound-for-pound boxer.
“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. We can’t knock him for that. If we really do our homework, I mean, this company has made crazy money. It’s not always about the money, but a lot of times, with my lifestyle and my persona and everything else, money is always going to come up. He said ‘Hateweather Promotions’; I’m still trying to find out what AB stands for. Always broke?” Floyd Mayweather added.
“I mean, that’s what I thought AB stands for. Last year, I think Leonard made more money than Adrien Broner. He gave himself a 10-figure name: About Billions. We know he ain’t never seen 8 figures or 9 figures. He’s barely seen 7 figures. It could be safe to say that just one of my cars costs more than he made in his whole career.”
However, as the word war is causing a media frenzy Broner himself is also battling another issue and that is law suits filed against him.
Bran Campbell of ESPN writes that Broner, who was stripped of his WBA title for being overweight, is considered a fugitive in his native Cincinnati for felony assault and robbery charges.
Broner was reported to have presented to the Washington D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission a written assurance that he will turn himself in after the match against Theophane.
Broner is coming in the fight with a 31 wins with 23 knockouts together with two loses and one no contest while Theophane has 40 wins with 11 via knockout together with six loses and one draw.
TMZ reported that Mayweather blasted Broner and told him that one of his cars cost more than what Broner makes in his whole fighting career.
“One of my cars cost more than he made in his whole career,” Floyd Mayweather continued his trash talk against Broner.
