Cardinals put Ryan Williams on trade block
The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly shopping running back Ryan Williams on the trade market before the Tuesday roster cut-down deadline.
The Cardinals roster is at 76 players as of Sunday. The team has a crowded backfield as is, with Rashard Mendenhall having joined rookies Stepfan Taylor (Stanford) and Andre Ellington (Clemson) through free agency. Just to make matters tougher for Williams, he has been nursing a knee injury, according to SB Nation. He has only made it through three full practices during training camp.
According to AZCentral, Williams has been pushed farther down the depth chart, as Alfonso Smith acted as the backup to Mendy during the Cardinals preseason game on Saturday night. In his first preseason game this year, Williams had just two carries but going for 10 yards.
There is not likely to be much interest in Williams, who may be cut by Tuesday anyway – or at least by the start of the regular season – and he has had trouble staying healthy during his career. It doesn’t help that NFL teams rarely trade for running backs, especially not questionable ones such as Williams.
