It’s officially confirmed, Tesla’s newest car is about to hit the road this month. The Palo Alto-based company has already sent invitations about the upcoming launch of the Tesla Model 3, which is slated to unveil later this month. That big event will take place at Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, California on Thursday and will streamed live on Tesla’s website.
In an earlier report made by Auto Express, which broke the Tesla Model 3 story, said that the Palo Alto-based company will unveil its newest car, the Model 3, in 2016 in advance of the 2017 production year. In addition to the report, Auto Express also has images of a possible Tesla Model 3, but Tesla said that those images are only based on early mock-ups.
People in the industry have been watching the Model 3 stories very closely, waiting for the company’s next move as its gets closer to launching the vehicle. The Tesla Model 3 is a $35,000 (that’s about half the starting price of its recent Model S cars) mass-market vehicle that is specifically designed to take on cars in the middle market. The Model 3 represents Tesla’s first move toward more affordable pricing and middle market, as opposed to its recent model, the Model S or Model X luxury cars.
The move is a big step in Tesla’s plan to become a major automobile manufacturer and a clear leader in the electric vehicle market. Tesla’s previous models, which include the Model S and Model X are designed for big customers because they are priced too high for an ordinary drivers. Unlike the new Tesla Model 3 which costs only $35,000, about half the starting price of the luxury Model s and Model X vehicles. Tesla believes that manageable pricing strategy would make the new model more attractive to new customers, who could not afford the previous Tesla models.
In addition to the lower price, the tax incentives also in some states for electric vehicles would defray the overall costs of the new Model 3 to less than $30,000. That would give the company a huge competitive advantage in the market, a huge price cuts. This is exactly what the industry are looking for, a highly affordable Tesla-made electric vehicles.
Tesla said there are two ways to make a reservation. The first one is to visit a local Tesla store on March 31, which is the day of the launch. The second one is to make the reservation on the company’s website on April 1, that’s the day after the live stream start on Tesla’s site.
Not much information is known about the Tesla’s newest model, questions about its specs, features and design remain unanswered. But expectations are very high . Analysts believe that the upcoming Tesla cars will be approximately 20 percent smaller than the recent models, the Model S.
In terms of power the industry expects more about the new model, it will able to travel more than 200 miles on one single charge only. The new car will likely to borrow other existing features from previous Tesla models, such as the 17-inch dashboard display, along with sensors and software for the Tesla Autopilot program. Of course, if would make big sense for the company if they include those existing autonomous driving features in the Model 3, as cars with autonomous driving features are starting to gain traction in the market.
Looking ahead, it‘s easy to lists incoming threats, most comes with countermeasures. These include companies like BMW, Audi, Porsche and even search giant Google, which already working hard on a fully autonomous vehicle.
