Celtics win without Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger
The Boston Celtics have recently had some injuries that got fans worrying. Rajon Rondo tore his ACL and Jared Sullinger is out for the season after a back surgery. There seems to be hope for this team yet, as Friday they beat the Orlando Magic 97-84.
The Celtics team pulled it together and five of the players scored in the double digits. Jeff Green came off the bench with 17 points, Paul Pierce had another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Kevin Garnett had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. This win brought the Celtics up to .500 with a record of (23-23).
”With the injuries, a number of guys are stepping up and that’s what we are going to need,” said Pierce, according to the Associated Press.
Courtney Lee got the job to replace Rondo’s position. He did a decent job last night with 14 points.
”Rondo, he’s our playmaker. He’s racked up a lot of assists with his playmaking ability. And now we just have to move the ball and make sure we are in the right spots to execute the offense,” said Lee.
ESPN Boston reports that the Celtics are still in the eighth seed of the Eastern Conference. This does not discourage the team at all. They all seem to be confident that they can fight through these injuries.
“The goal still hasn’t changed, so we’ve just got to keep guys in line with what we’re trying to accomplish around here, don’t stray off, don’t use the injuries as an excuse, and continue to move on,” says Pierce.
The Celtics have won their third straight game without Rajon Rondo and have made it to that .500. There seems to be some hope for this team yet.
