Chris Davis spoils Ryan Zimmerman’s three home run night

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris “Crush” Davis and Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had a good old fashion showdown during Wednesday’s game. Davis though, would get the last laugh.

Zimmerman cranked out three home runs during the game, and the Nationals seemed to have the game locked up with a 6-3 lead going into the seventh inning. Chris Davis, however, had other plans.

After the Orioles took a 7-6 lead in the seventh inning, Davis stepped to the plate and smacked a two-run home run, his second home run of the game, to seal the game for the Orioles. Davis finished 4-4 on the night and is now batting a booming .359, good for third in the league.

It’s about time Davis’ name be added to the list of potential Most Valuable Players. Davis has 19 home runs, and 50 RBI to go along with his amazing average. Davis has also been performing at a Gold Glove level at first base, snagging balls no matter how tough the scoop or split.

The Orioles have struggled with starting pitching this year, so Davis’ ability to drive in runs has been a blessing for the team. According to Baltimore Sports Report, the Orioles are 11-7 when Davis homers.

It will be interesting to see if Davis can continue his hot hitting all season, but right now, he’s showing no sign of slowing down.
