Clayton Kershaw upset with Dodgers after contract talks leak
On Sunday, there was a report that the Los Angeles Dodgers and star pitcher Clayton Kershaw were in negotiations on a new contract. Kershaw said he was upset that the talks were leaked out to the media.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Kershaw believes the contract talks are a distraction.
“I think the reason we’ve been able to continue discussions for this long is that it’s not been talked about,” Kershaw said. “And now that I’m having to talk about it, it’s a distraction because people are talking about it. I guess you’ll have to talk to the Dodgers as to why it came out now. I don’t love the fact that I have to talk about it.”
According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers were working on a seven-year extension that could be worth up to over $180 million. Kershaw is currently signed to a two-year contract worth $19 million.
Kershaw, 25, was the 2011 National League Cy Young Award winner and is currently 5-4 with a 1.44 earned run average for the Dodgers this season.
