Cleveland Browns keep no kickers after team sets roster to 53 players
Going into week one of the NFL season, the Cleveland Browns elected to keep no kickers on there final 53-man roster.
According to CBS Sports, the Browns cut Shayne Graham and Brandon Bogotay on Saturday, both fighting for the starting job to replace Phil Dawson. Dawson was the kicker for the Browns the last 14 seasons and signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the off-season.
Graham was 3 for 3 booting field goals in the preseason but didn’t play in the final preseason game with an injured back during warmups. Bogotay was 2 of 3 field goals in preseason play.
Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski spoke to reporters about the reason why they did not keep a kicker.
“We weren’t completely satisfied,” Chudzinksi said.”We’ll have a kicker within the next few days. It’s one position where a guy can come right in.”
According to NFL.com, there are a number of free agent veteran kickers who are available. Dan Carpenter, Neil Rackers, Billy Cundiff are all available on the Free Agent market.
