College football pre-season rankings – #22 Oregon State

Number 22 on the pre-season top 25 list is the Beavers of Oregon State, who should be among the top of the Pac 12 leaderboards this fall.

Oregon State will be returning eight offensive starters for the 2013 making the Beavers one of the veteran teams in the conference and possibly the country. The Beavers will also return arguably one of the best running backs in the country, Strom Woods.

Woods could be a dark-horse Heisman candidate in 2013 and will be heavily relied upon this season. The offense will also return the majority of the offensive line that should be much better in year two. All that is stopping the Beavers now is deciding who the quarterback that will lead the number 19 ranked passing attack in 2013, notes ESPN.

Both Cody Vaz and Sean Mannion remain on the Oregon State roster and are capable of leading the team. It will be interesting to see who wins the job in fall camp however; the quarterback position should be solid in 2013. The biggest weakness the Beavers face will be at defensive line.

According to nationalchamps.net, the Beavers will return seven on defense, mostly within the secondary. Only Scott Crichton and Dylan Wynn will return in 2013, making defensive line the position to watch as the season develops.

Its unlikely Oregon State will win the Pac 12 in 2013 however, a possible Rose Bowl bid could be in their future if Oregon makes a run for the BCS title.
