College football pre-season rankings – #9 Oklahoma State
Number 9 on the pre-season top 25 list are the Oklahoma State Cowboys who have a great chance to compete for a Big 12 title in 2013.
Last season, the Cowboys were rebuilding after the loss of quarterback Brandon Weeden and other key players, but offensively Oklahoma State never lost a step.
Using three quarterbacks, the Cowboys had one of the best offenses in the country, ranking 4th in total offense in 2012, according to NCAA.com, and will bring many back in this season.
While the quarterback situation is not clear yet, a starter should be named any day now and, either way Oklahoma State goes, it should work out fine with a plethora of experienced wide receivers returning.
A big question will come on the offensive line as the Cowboys will attempt to replace three of four linemen from last season, however, if this question can be answered before the season opener against Mississippi State, then Oklahoma State could be well on their way back to a conference title.
Defense will again be the question for the Cowboys in 2013 that will have to handle a pass-happy Big 12 conference.
The return of seven starters on defensive, as per Nationalchamps.net, including All-Conference defensive tackle Calvin Barnett and linebacker Shaun Lewis, the defense could have a solid anchor in place for the season.
With Oklahoma State a heavy favorite in the Big 12 this season, defense will be key and the season could come down to the final game against rival Oklahoma on December 7. If the Cowboys can pass the Sooners, a BCS bowl will be in their future.
