Duke hits 13 threes in win against Florida State

The Duke Blue Devils grabbed another big win on Thursday night as they defeated the Florida State Seminoles 74-66.

Andre Dawkins scored 22 points and Austin Rivers added 20 for the fourth ranked Blue Devils. This win was circled on Duke’s calendar after Florida State beat them a month ago at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

“I’m not going to call it a revenge game but that’s what it is,” said Rivers. “We really just wanted to get a big win here. We’re not thinking about revenge. We’re thinking about how they are tied with us at the top, or they were, us and Carolina.”

After the victory, Duke remains tied with North Carolina for first place in the ACC conference. Florida State dropped a game behind them with the loss.

Michael Snaer scored a team high 18 points and Bernard James added 13 for the Seminoles. Their defense has been great all season, but they could not contain the Blue Devils’ shooting, as Duke hit 13 threes on the night, which was the difference in the game.

“We allowed them to do what they do best and knock down 3s,” said Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton. “It was very difficult for us to get over the hump.”

Duke is certainly making a case for a number one seed in the NCAA tournament, as they have beaten five teams in the top 15, according to Yahoo Sports. However, with other teams looming behind them, they will need to finish off the season strong in order to get that number one seed. They have Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and North Carolina remaining on their schedule before the ACC tournament.

As for Florida State, they are still in good shape to make the NCAA tournament and perhaps get a favorable seed. However, they have a few more tough games left in the regular season, which includes road games at Miami and Virginia. Although they are just about a lock for the tournament, they still need to play well in order to get a three or a four seed.
