DiCaprio teams up with Paramount for ‘Captain Planet’ movie

Leonardo DiCaprio shows that he is serious with his environmental advocacy. DiCaprio is set to partner with Paramount Pictures for a movie project Captain Planet and the Planeteers.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions is currently in talks to secure the rights of the film. The project will have DiCaprio partnering with Jennifer Davisson Killoran in producing the film.

Jono Matt and “Scream Queens” star Glen Powell are set to write the script of the film, though there is no confirmation if Powell will also star in the said film. Sources added that the supposed storyline for the film takes place years after the show.

“Captain Planet and the Planeteers” was originally produced by Turner Program Services and DIC Entertainment. The show, about five chosen youths entrusted with five magical rings, was broadcast on TBS. Four of the rings control the elements of the earth while one ring controls the heart. The chosen youths are to defend the planet from the greatest of disasters and to educate humanity in taking care of the environment.

Comicbook.com reported that while waiting for the movie project, DiCaprio’s is busy with his new documentary entitled “Before the Flood.” The documentary tackles his meeting with people affected by climate change.

DiCaprio is serious about educating people around the globe about the effects of climate change. If documentaries are not enough he hopes the big screen will do. DiCarpio hopes that the movie project will help spread awareness about his environmental advocacy.
