The movie’s numbers are setting records everywhere. It notched the biggest opening day of the year in the United Kingdom with $9 million on 1,700 screens. In China, it opened with $21.2 million, making it the sixth highest opening day gross of a Hollywood film in the territory.

Its $82 million opening day gross in the US bested that of The Hunger Games, which opened with $67.3 million in 2012 and Furious 7, which made $67.4 million on Good Friday last year.

Warners’ first Superman movie Man of Steel, which also starred Henry Cavill, made $116.6 million on its opening week in the US in June 2013. However, it will rank behind three Marvel titles namely The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers : Age of Ultron ($191.3 million), and Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million).

The worldwide totals for Man of Steel, Batman Begins, and Superman Returns are $668 million, $374 million, and $391 million, respectively. The two Dark Knight movies made $1 billion worldwide.

The movie is doing good in the box office despite negative reviews from critics. It scored a low 30% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 73% approval rating in Audience Score from the same website.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) battle each other while Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) brings another deadly threat to the world. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) debuts in the movie ahead of getting her own stand-alone movie next year.
