“For those two days in July of 1976, I was the best in the world at what I did. On the other hand, the decathlon was my best friend, and that was over. I lost my beard,” she said.

She revealed she ever hated her own masculine body during that time as well. When she saw her body in front of the mirror, it literally “disgusted” her.

“I was big and thick and masculine. The rest of the world thought it was this Greek god kind of body. I hated it. But it’s what I was given, so I just tried to do the best I could with it,” Jenner added.

Despite her disgust, she explained she still loves Bruce but she chose to live the woman who lived with her since then.

“I loved Bruce. I still love him today … But this woman was living inside me, all my life, and it reached the point where I had to let her live and put Bruce inside. And I’m happier, these last 12 months, than I’ve ever been in my life,” she stated.

When asked about the story of the Olympic medal, she cited that the sport itself was already a perfect distraction. Yet, she acknowledged winning the gold medal was a rare achievement, Sports Illustrated reported.

“The medal … It was great for the kids at show-and-tell,” she exclaimed.

In addition, Caitlyn Jenner shared how her life was when he was an active decathlete in the late 70s. She mentioned how the reality of every athlete is and the impact of winning medal in Olympics.

“Sports. It’s not real life. You go out there, you work hard, you train your ass off, win the Games. I’m very proud of that part of my life. And it’s not like I just want to throw it out. It’s part of who I am,” Jenner noted.

“What I’m dealing with now, this is about you who you are as a human being. What did I do for the world in 1976, besides maybe getting a few people to exercise a little bit? I didn’t make a difference in the world,” she continued.

Caitlyn Jenner’s new ‘Sports Illustrated’ cover is released in celebration of her 40 years as a gold medalist for Olympic decathlon event in 1976.
