Disney star Debby Ryan of the American sitcom “Jessie” was arrested last week for drunk driving in Los Angeles.
TMZ first reported the incident that the 22-year old actress was driving her Audi vehicle near 3rd and La Brea Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a park Mercedes. Officers responded to the scene and administered a sobriety and breathalyzer test on Ryan with her blood alcohol level registering at .11 percent, which was above the .08 percent legal limit.
Officers arrested Ryan and charged her with a felony but later, it was decreased to a misdemeanor. She was then released after posting bail of $100,000. She will have her day in court to enter a plea on the charges that includes driving under the influence and driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher.
After the incident and realizing what she was in, Ryan immediately posted on Twitter her apology to all those who looked upon her as a role model and asked for forgiveness.
“Over the last few days I have had the chance to think about my actions, and I wish I had used better judgment. I recognize that I am a role model and have always worked hard to set a good example for my millions of fans. I am so sorry to disappoint everyone,” Ryan said.
LA Times reported that Ryan is due to appear in court on May 2 for her arraignment and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office has filed the charges and stated that they will not pursue the felony charges.
Ryan is known for starring as “Jessie Prescott” in the Disney Channel Original Series “Jessie” and as “Bailey Pickett” in Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life on Deck.”
Ryan started acting in professional theaters at the age of seven; in 2007, she appeared in the “Barney & Friends” straight-to-DVD film “Barney: Let’s Go to the Firehouse” and then was discovered in a nationwide search by Disney.
