Freeform has debuted the trailer of its new sci-fi teen series “Beyond” during the NY ComicCon event. The trailer had positive reviews from fans and it is already considered as one of the must-watch series of 2017.During the panel interview with its creators, they revealed some facts what fans should expect from it.

One of the notable things Beyond producer David Eick said was comparing it to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. When pressed about this remark, he said that like Tolkien, the series will be “rich and ambitious.” However, it remains to be seen if it really measures up with Tolkien’s epic trilogy.

The story is about a boy who fell in a coma for 12 years and discovered that he had supernatural abilities when he woke up. According to executive producer Tim Kring, the main character will have a difficult time adjusting not only to his surroundings but also to the fact that when he wakes up, he already has an adult body but still has the mind of a child. So it’s like the teen version of Rip Van Winkle who woke up many years after falling asleep.

Kring also added that although the series has a sci-fi element to it, that element will be subtle and buried within the premise of the main story. It will focus more on the most common theme every teenager face of being able to accept their own uniqueness, live with it, and use it to help those around them.
