The recent episodes of the Game of Thrones season 6 mainly focus with Arya, who was repeatedly stabbed by the Waif in Braavos, and the siege at Riverrun. In the middle of this, Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, said in a radio interview that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will die in the future episodes of Game of Thrones.
Kit Harrington may consider that as a joke but the fans of the popular TV series did not take his comments lightly. What made his statement more intriguing is that there were already rumors spreading about Dany’s death before he joked about it. However, fans were used to Kit Harrington telling false information about the future episodes of Game of Thrones.
After Jon Snow died in Game of Thrones season 5, Kit Harrington informed the fans that Snow will not be resurrected.
“I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone,” he said. I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead’. But it seems like people had a similar reaction to the Red Wedding episode (third season), with a kind of grief about it. Which means something I’m doing – or what the show is doing – is right.”
“It always amazes me when people come up to me and ask what’s happening for the rest of the season?” he said. “If I actually came out and told you, you’d hate me for it. I’ve started just lying to people. If they ask what happens this season I say, ‘Well, Daenerys dies, Tyrion loses a leg.’ I just go all out.”
Though other may consider it as a joke, some fans may partly believe that Daenerys Targaryen will suffer a gruesome death in the future episodes.
Polygon gave five reasons on why Daenerys’ death is inevitable. First, if she goes to Westeros, Daenerys could be considered the central villain making her a ‘conquering antagonist’ instead of a hero. Second, George R.R. Martin has no love for conquerors. Third, prophecies don’t ensure Daenerys’ survival. She could be murdered by her own dragons.
Fourth, the Whitewalkers may kill her for considering her dragons as a threat to their domination. Lastly, one of the assassination attempts against her may succeed.
Though these are just speculations and theories, it will basically depend on George R.R. Martin’s perception on what will happen in the future episodes. After rumors about Daenerys’ death spread, fans can’t help but ask the question, will she be resurrected like Jon Snow?
