Mariah Carey sparked some engagement rumours on Wednesday when she was spotted wearing a sparkling piece of jewellery on her left ring finger while waltzing into her beau James Packer’s Melbourne casino.
The glamorous pop queen made her entrance hand-in-hand with 48-year-old Australian billionaire Packer.
She was dressed in a black number with a plunging neckline. She even paused to lock lips with her beau in front of the baying crowd gathered outside of the Crown’s entrance hall.
Fanfare reached new heights however, when onlookers noticed a piece of silverware glittering from 45-year-old Carey’s left hand sparking engagement rumours.
But on closer inspection the ring looked more likely to be the mother-of-two’s favourite butterfly ring rather than any new diamond encrusted addition.
One of the We Belong Together singer’s fan pages soon posted that the ring was indeed the butterfly ring and wrote on Facebook: “Mariah Carey’s butterfly ring is NOT an engagement ring.”
The pop sensation has been known to wear her favourite butterfly ring on her left hand.
“She has been wearing it for over a decade…. Please stop with the ill-informed speculation,” according to a source reported by Mail Online.
Carey has been spotted wearing the ring on her left hand numerous times in the past. She also wore it once while in Portofino, Italy, with Packer shortly after they went public with their unlikely romance.
The singer who also has a matching butterfly tattoo has had the butterfly ring since the early nineties.
Mariah made headlines last year when during her separation from actor Nick Cannon she replaced the 17-carat pink diamond engagement ring he had gifted her with her butterfly favourite accessory.
Carey is in Melbourne for her New Year’s Eve performance at the Crown.
The visit marks her and Packer’s debut trip to Australia together after they first went public as a couple in June.
According to Daily Telegraph, the pair will stay at Packer’s Ellerston estate, north of Newcastle, NSW, with her twins Monroe and Moroccan and his three children from his marriage to second wife, Erica Packer – Indigo, seven, Jackson, five and Emmanuelle, three.
