Lionel Messi has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo once again, this time by owning £25 million (US $36.22 million) worth 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti in Paris. The former owner of the vehicle was Alessandro Proto.
The vehicle went on sale last week at the Artcurial Motorcars Retromobile 2016 in Paris. It went on to fetch the world-record fee for a car, according to Sport.
The name of the buyer is still unknown, however reports claim that Proto’s company has suggested Lionel Messi’s name. Cristiano Ronaldo was also a keen bidder in the auction.
The historic Ferrari car was driven by F1 driver Stirling Moss in the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix. The base price of the car in the auction was £15.56 million (US $22.51 million).
This is not the first time when Ronaldo and Proto have been linked. The Real Madrid forward was previously linked to star in a Martin Scorsese film however was later dropped according to Proto. Ronaldo also went on to buy Proto’s apartment at Trump Tower in New York.
The legendary car can reach a top-speed of 186mph and has a V12 engine with 390 horsepower at 7400 rpm.
However, the news from the Lionel Messi camp is negative. They have denied any involvement in the auction.
It won’t be possible to know the true owner of the car unless it’s seen on road. But, it won’t be possible since the car was designed only for racing.
Here are a couple of pictures of the car:
