Finally, the wait is over. Actress Tricia Helfer of the television series “Battlestar Galactica” has been cast to play mother to Tom Ellis who escaped the gates of Hell in Season 2 of the police procedural drama hit series “Lucifer.”
The 42-year-old Canadian actress will surely fill in big shoes as the series got high viewership on its season finale with the cliff hanger that Lucifer’s mom managed to escape Hell and is set to wreck havoc on earth. It would be remembered that in the Season One finale which was entitled “Take Me Back to Hell,” Lucifer (Tom Ellis) was surprised to see that one of the cages in Hell was empty and had a very worried face when he had a talk with his brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside). That was when Lucifer broke down the news that their “mom” has escaped Hell and will be the springboard for the storyline for Season 2.
TV Line also noted that Helfer will portray Lucifer’s mother, who will be called (Charlotte) and based on her character description for the show, she was trapped in Hell for thousands of years and has managed to break loose from Hell to spend “quality time with her sons.”
“She is the Mother of Angels is now free on Earth. Once reunited with Lucifer, it will become clear that she’s the one he takes after. Mom is fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves. However, mother and son do not share the same opinion when it comes to humanity. Everything that fascinates Lucifer about people repels Mom — a disdain that’s highlighted by that fact that Mom’s trapped in a human body for her stay on Earth. Lucifer’s desperate to find out what Mom’s up to, but she claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil’s mom really be that innocent?” her character description notes.
Showrunner Joe Henderson noted before that Lucifer’s mom, Helfer’s character, is one thing that they will try to explore as the comics and mythology have provided a limited description of her. He added that Season 2 will try to establish her character and from there the story will evolve not trashing out the original concept of the blossoming “friendship” between Lucifer and Det. Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
“In the comics and common mythology, it’s really not something that’s been established, so this is us doing a little world building,” he said. “This is us taking a step and exploring the answer to a question a lot of people never asked and staking our own claim. There are a lot of directions we can go and we’ve chosen one that we’re really excited about.”
Speculations have swelled that Ellis and German’s characters will keep on crossing over each other’s path as the show progresses but the main topic and main object is for Ellis’ character Lucifer trying to find his mother and convincing her to go back to Hell with him.
With the show already started shooting, viewers are already making countdowns to Sept. 19 when the first episode of “Lucifer” will start airing and they could not stop wondering how Helfer will stand out with other characters of the show namely Ellis, Woodside, German and other as well.
Aside from “Battlestar Galactica,” Helfer also starred in other films as the voice of Sarah Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, in the “Starcraft 2” trilogy and appeared in the series “Falling Skies” as well.
