The family just got bigger as “Sopranos” star Michael Imperioli joins the cast for Season 2 of Fox’s fantasy police procedural series “Lucifer,” taking the role of a lost brother of Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Amenadiel (DB Woodside).
Imperioli will play the role of Angel Uriel, though no specifics have been given as how will his role get in the mix of Lucifer and Amenadiel looking for their mother, Charlotte (Tricia Helfer), who escaped Hell.
Showrunner Joe Henderson noted that season 2 will deal basically with mother issues though they are not setting aside the building relationship between Ellis’ character to that of Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
“She’s a stick of dynamite that explodes,” said EP Joe Henderson, “Season one was all Daddy issues, but Mom’s here in the flesh. What does that mean?”
Henderson also defended why Helfer was cast as the mother from Hell with the obvious age difference from that of Ellis and Woodside. He noted that Lucifer’s mother is a spirit which is in search of a body not they way around.
“The fun thing about Mom is that she’s a soul in search of a body. She’s popping from a body to body,” adds Henderson.
Henderson did not discuss the role of Imperioli getting in the mix, but most likely he will also join the hunt for their mother escapee with the hopes of bringing her back to Hell in one piece. Aside from Imperioli, another new cast Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) will also join the fray of the twisting story line that will surely add more intrigue than answers by the end of the season.
Ella gets employed as LAPD’s new forensic scientist, who also has a strong belief in science and faith. Her character will also draw interest from lead character Lucifer and their relationship would affect his with Det. Decker. Thus, a love triangle at the side will intrigue fans and viewers while they search for their “evil” mother.
As things are unfolding, Lucifer will make frequent visits to his very close confidant, Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris). In Season One she made Lucifer get a closer look deep inside of him to remind him of his true nature. In the coming season, Dr. Martin will continue her work on Lucifer but in the end, she might also need counseling as well.
Everyone, including Imperioli and the rest of the cast, is very much eager to see “Lucifer” as it hits the small screen once again on Sept. 19, 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
