The release of the Power Rangers 2017 movie’s first teaser trailer just gave the people something to be excited about for next year, especially those who grew up watching the popular TV series.
At the New York Comic Con today, the trailer gave the fans a glimpse of what’s going to happen. Apparently, the movie will tackle an origin story for the five Power Rangers receiving amazing powers from a meteorite.
According to Polygon, remaking of the shows and films from the ’80s and ’90s has been one of the biggest trends in Hollywood these days.
This is to somehow give the new generation a glimpse of the kinds of shows people from that era used to watch. Reimagining those shows is the exact mindset for Power Rangers director Dean Israelite had going into the adaptation.
“I grew up on Power Rangers in South Africa and what was important to me from the beginning was making a movie about growing up,” Israelite said.
“I wanted to make this a grounded, character driven origin story that was always set to the backdrop of this adventure. Always at the center was making these characters real with real problems that people can find relatable. I wanted to remain true to the spirit of the franchise that I grew up on and loved. And I wanted really hard to reimagine it and reinvent it for a 2017 audience.”
Entertainment Weekly reported that some of the famous Hollywood names are included in the Power Rangers 2017 movie such as Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as the evil Rita Repulsa.
Meanwhile, Director Israelite also revealed during the NYCC that another famous character from the TV series will have an appearance in the film. Goldar will also bring havoc alongside Rita, according to the director. Goldar is Rita Repulsa’s famous henchman who is typically shown wearing gold-plated armor suit and carries a sword.
Power Rangers will the movie screens on March 24, 2017.
