Latest reports mentioned that there could be a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff to happen in 2019. Lately, Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted about creating a film spinoff in 2019 as part of the long-term planning for the Star Wars franchise.
At Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced long-term plans for the company, which included creating Star Wars spinoff in the next few years, Deadline noted.
“Returns in general across the entire US movie business were not impressive. Too much money was being sent on what we thought was a business that was not expanding. We figured out – not [a] perfect science, and we’ve made some mistakes – but we figured out the odds for making good films … We have a great system in place,” Iger said.
According to The Guardian, among the many untold stories to feature in the next film, but these three big characters, Kylo Ren, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leira are the top choices. Among the three, the same source highlighted that Ben Solo’s transformation gained more interest based on The Force Awakens in 2015.
The same source stated that the movie hinted to expose Kylo Ren’s history and his murderous platoon of dark disciples. Thus, another spinoff is needed to narrate Ben Solo’s history before he became Kylo Ren.
If Disney considers the young Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story for the spinoff, he could bring Princess Leia’s role as well. This means they have to erase the idea of producing a spinoff intended for Kylo Ren, because they will not relate well.
In the meantime, avid Star Wars fans should wait until Disney and Lucasfilm finalized the details for the planned spinoff.
