Sherlock Season 4 could be the last one? Benedict Cumberbatch admits it’s not top priority for his career

Sherlock Season 4 is set for airing next year and there are rumors that it could be the final one for the popular crime series featuring one of the most popular detectives in literature and fiction, Sherlock Holmes.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars as the genius Sherlock, shared in a recent interview that they still want to continue the series but fans should expect an “irregular” schedule for the series because of their busy schedule. This is not unlike the current irregular releases of Sherlock Season 4.

“We love doing the show and all I’ll say about it is that we’re all very busy, we’re all doing other things now and you’ll have to see the fourth season to realize why, for now, it’s not going to happen again at the same regularity that it has been happening,” Cumberbatch said to AP.

“But we’ll see, we’ll never say never and when it’s right, if it’s right, we’ll do more.”

Sherlock fans are worried that their favorite series is nearing its end with little news on Sherlock the past few months since it’s 2016 airing of “The Abominable Bride” which was a New Year’s Day special.

But since then Cumberbatch has been busy with other projects, mainly in playing the role of “Doctor Strange” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The good news for fans is that Sherlock Season 4 will return in 2017. Via IMDB, the next episodes are titled “The Six Thatchers” and “The Lying Detective” and another untitled episode so there’s going to be a minimum of three episodes for Sherlock Season 4.

Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. John Watson, the partner of Sherlock Holmes in solving crimes, is also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing Everett Ross in the recent Marvel film, Captain America: Civil War.

The Sherlock TV series being canned rumors started from the horse’s mouth when Cumberbatch himself told GQ, that “it might be the end of an era” referring to his role in Sherlock.

Sherlock Season 4 is expected to be released middle of 2017 while Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange hits the theaters on Nov. 4 in the United States and Oct. 26 in other parts of the world.

The long wait is going to be over for Sherlock fans and all are hoping Benedict Cumberwatch is committed to doing more after Sherlock Season 4.
