The Vampire Diaries Season 8: No more Damon and Elena despite Nina’s return?

It has been recently confirmed that Nina Dobrev will be coming back for The Vampire Diaries Season 8, but would her tandem with ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder return?

Nina Dobrev told producer Julie Plec of her wish to return back for the finale of the series and complete the story of Elena. It has to be noted that Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries after Season 6.

“We knew we didn’t want to kill Elena because we do want her to come back one day, maybe in the series finale,” Julie said, as reported by

Nina left The Vampire Diaries Season 6 with her character, Elena, being put to sleep with magically-induced coma in the Salvatore’s catacomb. She would remain asleep as long as Bonnie Bennett is awake.

The chances of Nina coming back has increased as Kat Graham who plays Bonnie Bennett announced that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will be her last. Nina’s voice was also featured in the season 7 finale, raising the excitement of Elena Gilbert fans.

But the question is, will Nina be really returning as Elena Gilbert and rekindle her sparks with Damon Salvatore?

With her voice being the only evidence of her return, fans are speculating that Nina will not be returning as Elena, but rather as her other character in The Vampire Diaries, Katherine Pierce.

Some fans suggest that it will be because Bonnie will not die, and Elena will remain asleep, and that would mean that the Delena tandem won’t be back.
