Tim Tebow is winning hearts not just on field but off field too. Tebow recently went to Prom Night.
Yes, you read it right.
The NFL star brought smiles to hundreds of people with special needs by going to Prom Night with them.
The prom was part of Night to Shine initiative in association with Tim Tebow Foundation. The event was held across 48 states in 7 countries: the U.S., Uganda, Haiti, New Zealand, Ecuador, Kenya and the Philippines.
People reports that Tim could hardly contain his excitement to attend the prom night in Haiti: “I’ve really been looking forward to Valentine’s Day weekend. This is going to be awesome.”
The prom night in Haiti took place on February 11 at the campus of My Life Speaks. Marginalized and disabled people from all over the country attended the event.
“It’s just so important to me,” Tebow, 28, said. “I’ve always had a burden for people who can’t fight for themselves. The disabled are often bullied and told in a million ways that they’re not important. Well, they are important, and this is a night for them to realize that they are important – and for the community to actually see them and celebrate them.”
“There are people who look at the disabled as being cursed. But they’re now watching them being celebrated. I hope that can change the narrative, not just in Haiti, but everywhere,” he added.
There were smiles everywhere. Girls wearing formal gowns and boys in suits and ties arrived for the prom night. So, yes, Tim had many dates at the prom.
“It’s probably the first time many of them have been applauded,” Tebow said.
The participants hardly recognised Tebow the star. But it hardly mattered to him for as he said it’s their night and it should be about celebrating the participants.
We couldn’t agree more.
Tim you have won our hearts once again.
