Which actor will be next to speaking the famous line, “Bond, James Bond”? Who will be cast as the next James Bond and assume the classic and prestigious role?
New reports have claimed that the list is already down to a few popular actors; namely Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Michael Fassbender. All three are reportedly on the “short list” by the executives at MGM, which owns the rights for the super spy flick.
Other actors, who are still in the running for the James Bond role are Luke Evans, Charlie Hunnam and Aidan Turner, who according to the latest betting odds, is the top favorite to land the part.
Over at the William Hill betting site, Turner is priced at 2-to-1 to become James Bond. Two others, James Norton (10-to-3) and Jack Huston (7-to-2) are among the favorites while Tom Hiddleston (6-to-1) and Idris Elba (8-to-1) are next in line.
Whoever wins the next James Bond role will face pressure, as he will take over from the great Daniel Craig, who is pegged as one of the best actors to play the character in the franchise’s history.
Compared to Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner is less popular among the mainstream movie fans. However, he has made good account of himself in the hit “The Hobbit” trilogy. He plays “Kili” in the Lord of the Rings spin-off movies, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (2012), “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” (2013) and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” (2014).
Turner also stars in the highly acclaimed TV series “Poldark”, which will have a second season later this September.
The James Bond character, created by Ian Fleming has made great careers out of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig. Getting the role is a surefire way to superstardom but it also puts them in the spotlight and getting compared with the brilliant actors of the past.
