All eyes were on the 2015 Ms Universe pageant. Everyone including athletes were tuned in as they witnessed the one of a kind pageant experience in its history as program host, Steve Harvey Hunter announced the wrong winner of the prestigious pageant.
The mistake of announcing the winner from Ms Colombia to correcting it to Ms. Philippines, stirred up social media like wildfire with Hunter in the middle of the entire fiasco.
NBA Hall of Famer, Magic Johnson, was quick to defend Hunter to everyone by stating “Steve Harvey made a mistake tonight, we’ve all made mistakes in our careers & lives.
@IAmSteveHarvey keep the faith and keep going strong!”
More so, NFL legend – Emmit Smith was also in the pageant as a judge and he helped in defending Harvey’s blunder in Twitter:
Not all were in sympathy with Harvey, the Washington Wizards tried to make fun of the situation by putting in the scenario of the team drafting John Wall as the 1st overall pick back in 2010.
Philippines’ local athletes had fun in twitter as college basketball superstar as Kiefer Ravena from the Ateneo Blue Eagles indicated that this situation reminded him when rival, Mac Belo of the FEU Tamaraws made the last second game winning shot during their Final-4 match.
“HAHAHHA. Colombia just got Mac Belo-ed. You thought you won but Mac (Belo) was there,” Ravena said on his twitter account in Tagalog.
Even with the help from some sports personalities, the sports fans were brutal to poke fun on the latest mishap during the Ms. Universe 2015 pageant.
Nonetheless, Harvey was quick to apologize and takes full responsibility for the mistake stating:
“I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing. Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake. I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.”
