Die-hard fans of the Walking Dead will surely remember about Johnny Depp’s cameo in the series, when he lent his head (literally) to the show. After the prop was used by Rick and crew, Norman Reedus (aka Daryl) decided to keep Depp’s head and keep it in his dressing room.
The head was taken from episode twelve of season six, when Rick and company devised a plan to help the Hilltop Community after receiving threats from the Saviors. The plan involved threatening the Saviors with a head that resembled their group’s leader, Gregory. Rick’s group eventually brought in three severed heads and Jesus chose the one that looked to fit the required profile.
The head that was picked appeared to look like Johnny Depp, and Walking Dead executive producer, Greg Nicotero confirmed that the mold was taken from the Hollywood star.
“One of the other heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp,” shared Nicotero after the episode had aired for the first time. “I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt.”
Naturally, Reedus, being Norman Reedus asked for the prop after their shoot. Nicotero had to decline at that time, though, just so he could finish logging the shoot.
“Norman kept saying he wanted the heads when we were done shooting,” the executive producer added. “I said we’ve got to wait until the picture is logged.”
The Johnny Depp head and Pink Panther blow-up doll (never thought those words would ever appear in the same sentence) photo can be seen below.
The head adds to a collection of other unique items in Reedus’ collection which includes Hershel actor Scott Wilson’s ponytail and Andrew Lincoln’s (who plays Rick) beard shavings.
Look for other celebrity heads (or limbs) in the upcoming season of the Walking Dead when it premiers on October 23.
