X-Men fans will try to savor Hugh Jackman as he reprises his role in the upcoming third installment of the spin-off movie Wolverine that is expected to hit theaters in 2017 as rumors are swirling that it will be the last time he will be doing the role in the big screens.
Jackman teased fans as he appeared briefly in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and further hinted about the third spin-off movie with the end credit teaser that had moviegoers anticipating the storyline for the coming movie. Jackman stated that it was a long ride for him playing the role Wolverine and feels like it’s the right time to call it quits and hang the claws.
“It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it,” Jackman said.
In the third installment of the movie Wolverine will take inspiration from the iconic Marvel story “Old Man Logan,” wherein James Howlett was commonly known as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine retires from his X-Men duties and with the setting to be staged in a very distant future where various supervillains have taken control of the United States. It is also stated that the film will also detail that all of Logan’s X-Men friends have died and that the guilt of having his friends died has prevented him from using his claws and putting the hero’s suit again.
Since this will be Jackman’s last portrayal of the iconic X-Men claw character, the film will carry an R-rating as fans would want Wolverine to be cloth in blood and wreck havoc against his opponents. Though the film will not purely base on the comic adaptation, since the comic shows other Marvel characters such as the Hulk, Hawkeye, and the Red Skull, the film will just focus on how the elderly Logan cruise himself around the super villains.
The film will also showcase Patrick Stewart who will also reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier. The film will also cast Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal, and Elizabeth Rodriguez, though no roles have been officially released as yet.
Rumors are swirling that the film will take off from the teaser that was shown during the end credits of “X-Men: Apocalypse” wherein men in suits came into the facility found in Alkali Lake and took some of Wolverine’s DNA and placed inside a briefcase which has the name “Essex Corp.” It is said that the film will further explore on building a female Wolverine and the revelation of Mr. Sinister and from there the story will progress.
