Exonerated boxer Dewey Bozella makes debut
After spending 26 years of his life in prison, boxer Dewey Bozella will make his professional boxing debut Saturday when he goes head to head with Larry Hopkins at the Los Angeles Staples Center.
Bozella was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for a murder that he did not commit and was exonerated in 2009 thanks to the Innocence Project, CBS News reports.
In 1983 from the testimony of two witnesses and no physical evidence, the now 54-year-old Bozella was convicted of killing 92-year-old Emma Crasper in New York.
According to Mercury News, now freed Bozella gets to make his one dream he thought about every day come true.
“I want to go out there and give 100 percent and then move on with my life,” he said. “This is not a career move. It’s a personal move and a way to let people know to never give up on their dreams.”
This will be Bozella’s one and only fight.
