FC Barcelona Latest News: Sergio Busquets set to extend his stay at Camp Nou

La Liga giant FC Barcelona have tied down midfielder Sergio Busquets to a new five year contract. The player will now stay at the Camp Nou until the summer of 2021.

The new deal for Busquets contains a buyout clause of $198.11 million, as reported by the official website of the club. The staggering release clause highlights how highly the Catalan club rates the player. It has been almost eight years since the 28-year-old defensive midfielder made his first-team debut on September 2008.

Busquets have since gone on to make a total of 384 appearances for Barcelona. He has made an average of 40 appearances per season since the time he debuted for the first-team.

The man from Sabadell, Spain moved to the Camp Nou at the age of 17 from UFB Jabac Terrassa in 2005. He was since developed by the famous Barcelona academy into the player he is today.

Most of the Barcelona fans might be a fan of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, who mostly dictates team’s attack. It is Busquets who provides the stability in midfield and dictates the tempo of the game. He is considered as the engine room of the team, both at the club as well as for his country.

The player has won an impressive six La Liga titles with the Catalan giant along with three Champions League trophies. He has also won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 Euro Championship with Spain. The player has been an integral part of his club and nation for years now.

By signing a five year contract with Barcelona, Busquets will spend the best years of his footballing career at the Camp Nou. With already  a plethora of trophies under his belt, he still has a lot of years left to add more.
