In an earlier report, Jon Jones has successfully claimed the UFC’s interim light heavyweight champion at UFC 197 in Las Vegas after he defeated Ovince Saint Preux via unanimous decision. The resilient Saint Preux has fought with a broken arm for more than three rounds.
Jones was also supposed to have a rematch with current UFC light heavyweight holder, Daniel Cormier, however, Cormier was forced to pull out of the said bout due to reported injury.
However, things are getting great for Jones, reports said that Cormier is now medically cleared following an MRI on Monday. UFC President Dana White has confirmed the reports through an interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, and that both fighters will headline UFC 200 on July.
The timing is great for Jones because he now gets a chance to reclaim his UFC light heavyweight title in a clash with Daniel Cormier at UFC 200. Jones has defeated Cormier at UFC 182 via unanimous decision, but the UFC has stripped him of his interim light heavyweight title and later removed from the official UGC rankings following his arrest on felony hit-and-run charges.
Both fighters were set to face-off at UFC 197, but Cormier suffered a foot injury that ruled him out of the said bout.
UFC 200 has lost its lot of buzz on the web after Conor McGregor’s controversial retirement announcement. A rematch between Jones and Cormier would help reignite interest and draw attention for UFC 200, which has lost a lot of buzz after McGregor’s controversial announcement.
