It’s down to the final eight teams in the FIBA 3×3 World Championships held in Guangzhou, China from October 11 to 15, with the final day set Saturday.
Here’s how the match-ups look like in the quarterfinals of the three-on-three event, with their tournament seeds. The top seeds remaining in the field are top seed Serbia and second seed Slovenia.
Men’s Event Quarterfinals
Serbia (1) vs. Netherlands (5)
Spain (11) vs. Uruguay (7)
Slovenia (2) vs. Hungary (14)
USA (4) vs. Qatar (16)
Serbia was the first champions after winning the men’s event in the 2012 FIBA 3×3 World Championships in Athens, Greece. France and Ukraine took silver and bronze four years ago, in the first edition of this world championship.
Qatar is the defending champion after winning the gold medal two years ago in Moscow, Russia beating Serbia in the championship round. Russia took bronze that year.
The most interesting quarterfinals match-up would be between Team USA and the defending champions Qatar, who are seeded 16th only but have made the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, these are the pairings in the women’s division of the FIBA 3×3 World Championships:
Women’s Event Quarterfinals
Netherlands (1) vs. Czech Republic (5)
USA (14) vs. Argentina (10)
